Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Medicare item number 135 - Helping Children with Autism program? +

This is an early intervention service for children diagnosed with ASD who require treatment by allied health professionals including Speech Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, and Physiotherapists. Check out the Helping Children with Autism program website for more information.

Why is there a difference between general appointments and behavioural or complex appointments? +

Some children present with more complicated issues to address, thus requiring more of the doctor's time and is deemed complex. A child who has a behavioural or mental health issue which affects school, home and extended family life, takes more time than a simple medical issue such as a UTI. During the consult Dr Pippa will screen for coexisting diagnoses, check what is happening across all parts of the child's life and check in regarding therapy and medications where appropriate.

Do I need a GP referral before booking an appointment? +

We ask that you get a referral from your GP faxed or emailed to our rooms to enable us to triage and assess your child’s needs and determine the appropriate appointment length and urgency on a case by case basis.

If you feel there is information that would help Dr Pippa make this decision, please email contact@drpippa.com.au with your child’s details and your contact details and the supplementary information to assist her.

Does NDIS cover my paediatrician appointments? +

No. However Medicare does offer a rebate provided you have an active GP referral (renewed every 12months).

Does my Private health insurance cover the paediatrician appointment? +

No. Private health policies do not cover specialist outpatient (clinic) appointments.

What if I cannot afford my child's appointment? +

We understand raising children can be costly! If you find yourself in a situation where you feel you cannot afford your review appointment fees, please contact the clinic staff as soon as possible about this. If you are a new client and have not yet seen Dr Pippa then it may be best to chat with your GP about different options including the public clinics.

If are an existing client this should be discussed with the practice manager / Dr Pippa before the appointment so a plan can be made that works for your family.

Please note last minute cancellations do incur a cancellation fee so please don’t leave this until the last minute to discuss.

Why do you charge a cancellation fee? +

Dr Pippa has a list of patients waiting to be able to be seen by her. A minimum 7 days’ notice is required to cancel or reschedule your appointment. This is to ensure we have time to fill your cancelled appointment slot as Dr Pippa is booked out well over 12 months in advance and has had to close her books to new patients.

Less than 7 days’ notice will incur a $100 non-rebate-able fee which must be paid to secure the new appointment.
