Paediatrician Dr Pippa Birkin
MBChB FRACP
Dr Pippa Birkin was born and educated in the UK, receiving her medical degree from the University of Birmingham in 1998. She has been a proud member of the Australian workforce since 2003 and has primarily been based on the Central Coast. She has also worked in various other hospitals in NSW as a paediatric trainee which include John Hunter Children’s Hospital, Children’s Hospital Westmead, Royal North Shore Hospital, Taree Base and Maitland. She also completed a rewarding and exciting six months as a doctor for NETS (Newborn and Paediatric Emergency Transport Service) in Sydney, transferring critically unwell infants around the state by air and road.
Dr Pippa gained her paediatric fellowship in 2018.
It was in her year as a developmental and behavioural paediatric fellow at Wallsend, Newcastle that Pippa first gained an interest in Autism Spectrum Disorder and other neurodevelopmental disorders. She has built on this over time and has a particular interest in supporting the child and families through diagnostic processes and moving forward following this.
Having worked in starting the KidsPoint Paediatric multidisciplinary clinic on the central coast, she has had a fantastic opportunity to work with experienced ASD therapists and diagnosticians and now has a good network of therapist colleagues to assist in her work with ASD children.
Dr Pippa believes in having a holistic approach to patient care, being both child and family centred when planning patient’s care. She prioritises keeping her practice evidence based yet practical for families and children.
Dr Pippa is happy to see your child from their first moments of life right through to school leaving age.
In particular:
Infants with an array of issues
Those with complex care needs
Those with behavioural issues, anxiety and emotional issues
Any child or adolescent with Autism Spectrum Disorder, particularly supporting girls
Children and adolescents with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
Children and Adolescents with school refusal or learning issues
Children with eating disorders
On a more personal note, Dr Pippa lives on acreage on the NSW Central Coast and enjoys relaxing with her rescue dogs and happy hens after a busy clinic. She has a passion for travel, having emigrated from the UK, and she still has many places in the world left to explore.
